No wonder it is so difficult extracting a reason for an overpayment from the HMRC! Unbelievable!

Would this has an impact on the appeals proceedure and time in dealing with appeals? If the information why an overpayment has occurred is not easily obtainable?

Steve Webb: To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Tax Credit Office IT system records the reason for overpayment of tax credit awards. [264652]

Mr. Timms: The tax credits IT system does not have the facility to record the reason(s) why HMRC believe an overpayment has arisen.
