I had a huge rant and rave with the HMRC on the phone on the 1st of August 08 when they told me that I had not given them my son's after school club details and that they still had him down as going to day nursery. He finished day nursery some 3 years before! I even have a letter from my local compliance officer at the local HMRC office telling me that he had updated this himself!!!!

They also told me that I had not told them that my hubby now worked as an employee for the company he works for (his own ltd company) even though I know I have done this too.

So, of I went and dutifully got all the information they needed, including the date of incorporation etc etc.

I then rang them back and gave them this info on the very same day.

I rang them yesterday after receiving my data as my son is now no longer in afterschool club at all and guess what ...................
They still had him down as going to day nursery and my husband as working for a company he worked for 4 years ago!!!!!!!!

They do however, have a record that I rang them on 1st of August, but the info I gave them has never been recorded! How mad is this getting???

They are now meant to be getting a team leader to call me in the next 48 hrs.

I have complated my Tax Credit Overpayment form which I am about to send of to them recorded delivery but I need a copy of the phone calls which I have not received and there is no note of me requesting according to the advisor on the phone yesterday!

As a quick update - I have been trawling through my papers and it states categorically that I gave hubby's change of employment back in 2006 even though the employer they have him down as is one that dates back from about 2004!

While it doesn't show the change made in 2005 to the childcare, it does show the conversation I had on 1st Aug 08 giving the correct childcare details which have now disappeared!

I have also been able to work out the discrepancy that occured with my salary when I rang to give my weekly figure, and then an incorrect annual salary came out on an amended declaration 4 months later. When I rang to query it they told me that was the figure I had given them which I know wasn't true as I only gave a weekly figure so they would have worked it out from that. It turns out that they multiplied my weekly figure by the exact no of weeks between my start date and the end of that tax year (30.9 wks)and not 52 weeks.

So - it is well worth getting this SARN info!!!

Yes there is no doubt those SARN documents can be most illuminating. You definitely need the recordings of those calls though to strengthen your case further. If you have requested them in writing then it would be worth making a complaint as they have not been supplied. If you requested them by phone, well as Alan always says, a phone call to TCO is not worth the paper it's written on, so it would be a good idea to now put your request in writing and tell them that if they are not received within the forty days allowed by the Data Protection Act you will be contacting the Information Commissioner with no further reference to TCO. Send it recorded delivery and copy your MP in.

Good luck
Auntie
