Hi everyone I am a new member and I have recently received a demand for a tax credit overpayment from 2004. I disputed this at the time, provided all evidence pertaining to an 'official error' and yet they still decided I owed the money. My tax credits ceased, and I thought there was nothing I could do about it. I suffer, and I have done since 2000, from chronic depression, anxiety and pain. Recently I have started having seizures and I am seeing the Neurologist on Thursday. I still work part time and I am a fighter, I have other money worries and now this demand is sending me over the edge. I am married but all the finances seem to fall on me, and I have had enough. I can't drive at the present time and I have become a prisoner in my own home. Since reading your website I am going to investigate speaking to my local MP and read through your literature. I am so glad to have found your website. Kind regards Fay

Hi Fay
Sorry to hear about your tax credit troubles, sounds as if that is the last thing you need.
You are absolutely right to take this to your MP, although there are differing responses it seems depending on who this is.
However, if you could answer a couple of questions you might get some further help:
1. You said you disputed the overpayment - what was the cause and what grounds did you put forward for the dispute?
2. You said that your tax credits ended....do you mean the claim ended or you don't actually receive any tax credits (either because of your income or because you are family element only £545 per year and it is taken towards the overpayment). If the claim ended - what was the reason (i.e. did you move in with a partner, separate from a partner, child left school, stopped working).
