Hello everyone , i have just found and signed on to the forum

as you guessed i am supposed to owe money , over £5000. I have sent letters in the past asking them to show me exactly how they came to this conclusion as i had sent all my relevant info each year (3years)(03-04/04-05/05-06) the last letter they sent says and i quote. You cannot appeal against the decision to recover your overpayments, ((although you can ask us to look at the decision again if you able to provide new and relevant information.)) i have seen the steps that are advised to help me but as i have only now found the forum and the information i am worried that i have ruined my chance to be able to implement them , could anyone offer any advice

Hi Dave

Welcome to the mad world of Tax Credit Overpayment. No you can't appeal against the recovery of an overpayment but you can dispute it which is a different thing that TCO continue to convenently omit to tell people. If you feel that you have kept TCO informed about your circumstances and returned any forms they have sent you to fill in at the right time then you certainly should dispute the recovery of the overpayment. Even if you are not sure whether you have or not it is certainly worth doing so because you need to get to the bottom of what has led to the alleged overpayments before you enter into any arrangement to pay anything back.

The best advice I can give you is to go to the main website and follow the instructions for disputing. You may also want to contact your MP and let him/her know what's going on and enlist their support.

Others will be along I'm sure to offer more detailed advice.

Good luck

Auntie
