I've had problems with tax credits for the past 4 years. I've made literally hundreds of phone calls, got my old MP involved and the CAB office. When I moved in 2007 at 8 months pregnant, I was in a new town, stressed and worn out and when I received a letter from CAB saying they couldn't represent me anymore because I moved (eventhough my case is a complete travesty) I just caved in and started paying back a monthly direct debit (after threats of legal action from the tax credits)
2 weeks ago, I received two letters with two different figures for direct debits. This evening, just 5 minutes ago to be exact,I received a phone call from the tax credits saying I owe them more money and another threat of legal action. But of course, the guy on the phone was talking of completely different figures than what I have on the letters I just received (aren't they always though) and can only see one of the direct debits. There was no apology for the wrong figures (whichever ones are wrong), not even any surprise in the guy's voice that I have letters from his office with completely different info...
I feel more sleepless nights coming on and lots of worrying. But I think I will contact the CAB in this town and see if there is anything that can be done, because at this rate, I'm paying back more than they ever paid me in the first place.
When the first CAB that took on my case listened to the available phone calls that I made, they were baffled by the complete incompetence of the revenue office, and this was a lady who did nothing but deal with overpayments all day and every day!
I've had to stop working because my payments were stopped and I could no longer pay the childcare and now I'm terrified to go back to work in case they will overpay me again...
Sorry for the long rant but it's a vicious circle, from which I can't see an ending, not until I won't need tax credits for child care anymore.

Hi Alexanders Mum and welcome.

Please have a look here http://familytaxcredit.forumco.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1457#10995

Thanks, Alan the Geordie,
This phone call tonight has made me so angry. I just can't understand why such incompetence should be rewarded!
I'm going to fight this again and will start by sending a message to Stephen Timms.

Good lass!!

Get stuck in and DON'T give up!!

May be a good idea to stop paying them too until they can fully explain to you why they think you owe them this money.

Would you consider talking on national TV about it? (Sorry to ask.) We've had requests. I can be contacted on ali@taxcc.org if interested. (The show is keen to get someone for next Tuesday, and new cases are always welcome.)

Please vote to bring our 'Justice is an Amnesty' campaign to the government’s attention, and ask all your friends to do the same!
