Human

I checked each Award Notice

Called the Tax Credits Helpline

And though each form was a mindbender

Always thought my payments fine

But these days I get nervous

When the post comes through my door…

Threats and lies, racing heart

Thanks to Gord…

Is Brown Human? Or is his Chancellor?

Their clawbacks brutal, their hearts ice cold

Tax Credit Casualties want to know the answer -

Is Brown Human? Or is his Chancellor?

Darling could instruct the Rev’nue

To grant the write-offs that they should

Brown lets them act as judge and jury

Hiding the truth because they could

They don’t want the commotion

Of owning up to all they know

Close their eyes, never tell…

You've gotta let us know

Is Brown Human? Or is his Chancellor?

Their clawbacks brutal, their hearts ice cold

Tax Credit Casualties want to know the answer -

Is Brown Human? Or is his Chancellor?

Still their System’s not alright -

Just out of mind and out of sight

Our data we’re still not receiving

Which proves which one of us is thieving!

Is it really about 'claimant fraud and error', Mr Brown???

Hi Simon/gene hunt - I agree! Thanks for your post - it has reminded me to try to take stock of exactly which politicians are working hard serving us, and which ones are just in it for the pay cheque.

I don't know how you do it Ali. Brilliant as usual. I love this song but have to sign your chorus to it now when it's on the radio. (Apparently there is another version doing the rounds, something to do with hamsters)

Hi ali! yes Brown by name Brown by nature! i think there are really only a handful of decent politicians, the others are by nature treacherous elitists! I think this Tax Credit fiasco sums up the government and the state of the country as a whole! Thanks for reply and advice ali!

Thanks Auntie, Sarah and Simon. There is more political comment here:

I wish Brown could embrace the idea of human fallibility, especially his own, and understand that the electorate would think considerably more of a man able to consider and rectify his mistakes rather than simply hum very loudly when you try to tell him, and turn his back and shuffle away.

His admitting how dangerous the tax credit "system" has been to many, and offering an Amnesty, could actually be the saving grace of the Labour Party. I can only conclude that his complete unwillingness to even entertain the idea owes more to shoring up his reputation than having any compassion for ordinary people, any sense of justice, or true love of what we all believe the Labour Party used to stand for.

In ignoring the arguments he could consign his whole Party to defeat, and maybe even years in the wilderness as they try to find their way again. That staying in power and appearing infallible is more important to him that truth, social justice, ending the despair of millions, and salvaging the reputation and integrity of his Party speaks volumes, I think.

If I were a grassroots Labour MP with an ounce of integrity and conscience now, I would feel utterly betrayed.

Will we ever get to hear what the rank-and-file Labour MPs really think?

I daren't believe that they are truly in agreement with their leader.

I had thought Britain was governed by a man, not a meglomaniacal monster.

A melonmaniac Ali ???

Are you suggesting that we are being led by a mad melon ??

"The best way to take control over a people and control them utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible
reductions. In this way the people will not see those rights and freedoms being removed until past the point at which these changes cannot be reversed."

During Gordon Brown's recent visit to Barack Obama he gave a speech referring to the story of the Good Samaritan:

"I keep returning to something I first learned in my father's church as a child. In this most modern of crises I am drawn to the most ancient of truths: wherever there is hardship, wherever there is suffering, we cannot, we will not, pass by on the other side."

Hardship? Suffering? Aren't our members experiencing more than enough of this? And what does Brown do?

In the words of Burt Bacharach: "Walk On By!"

Please vote to bring our 'Justice is an Amnesty' campaign to the government’s attention, and ask all your friends to do the same!
