I'm confused - after spending another morning trying to work out how much I still actually owe TC - as a result of TC overpayment 03/04. I have tried so many different ways and still nothing adds up and no two figures are the same! I have all my statements, adjustments etc - all filed in the right order (I'm very anal lol) and still can make nothing make sense. To make matters worse after appearing to decrease the overpayment now appears to be increasing again - yet circumstances remain the same! Is there anyway I can find out how much I owe and repayments so far - a simple straightforward breakdown is all I need. I fear that this is too much to ask. Anyone else got any tips or had any success?

Hi and welcome to the club!!

Your situation sounds fairly typical and I'm not sure if even HMRC themselves understand how they're supposed to work things out!

I certainly don't - the only thing that I understand is how to make a bloody nuisance of myself, but having said that, I have won my case!

Personally, I'd like to meet our unelected leader Gordon Brown face-to-face (I wonder which of his faces he'd present?) and ask him as the architect of the whole shambles to explain exactly how it's all supposed to work & how we should read their bumph. I'd enjoy watching him flounder!

That said; We do have some kind folk here who are getting to grips with the "system" and I've no doubt one or two of them will be along shortly to offer you the benefit of their wisdom, so please keep dropping-in and I'm sure that in due course your questions will be answered.

Meanwhile, please feel free to have a browse around our Main Site http://www.taxcc.org/

where you'll find lots of interesting stuff including our Petition that you may like to sign.
