Fair pay for public servants
Have you ever:

taken a driving test
claimed winter fuel payments or tax credits
needed help getting back into work
needed a passport to go on holiday
visited one of our national museums
or even had to be rescued at sea?

If you have then you will have benefited [sic] from the service provided by a PCS member. Currently many public servants are on poverty pay. All we are asking is pay that keeps in line with inflation.

Please send a message to your MP and support our campaign for fair pay

Please sign our online petition for fair

Hmmm. There is a certain irony in this, don't you think? But perhaps they are just the foot soldiers following the orders. Notice how it's the bosses who fail and get the golden handshake payoffs, and Summersgill the gong. Interesting one, this, though - don't you think?

Perhaps better pay and working conditions would help those administering tax credits to do their job better? I don't know...

Perhaps it's possible to do as they suggest - sign the petition and contact our MPs - but add some note about wanting to give decent pay to public servants so they can administer a safer, fairer tax credit "system"? What do others think?

Okay, I signed the petition with a first name something like "Payfairerwagesso" and a last name of "Thattaxcreditscanbesafeandfair" - or something like that, but to get it showing on the signatory list, you have to click to have your name visible, and I didn't. So comments aren't really possible on that one (I wonder why?).

But I found this on their site:

How many agency workers does the government employ?

How many agency workers does the government employ?

We do not have a complete set of figures for the use of agency workers across the civil service and other bodies. The most recent information we have suggests that agency workers form a significant proportion of staff in many areas.

Fujitsu (tax credits) - 80%
RPA Newcastle - 55%
RPA Workington - 35%
Driving Standards Agency - 20%
Scottish Parliament 20% approximately
Home Office 10%
Learning and Skills Council at least 8%
Welsh Assembly Government 7%
Department of Health 7%
MOD DARA 5% approximately
Comprehensive information about agency worker use and conditions is needed to help with campaigning, negotiating and organising agency workers.

Although we have some very interesting anecdotes, we need to have an overall clear picture to see how widespread the use of agency workers is, and to get an idea of the scope of the problem of exploitation.

So 80% of Fujitsu's employees are agency workers??? How is that going to help with accuracy and accountability?

Ooh, it worked:

"Thank you for subscribing to the PCS campaign petition. This is to confirm you have subscribed using the following details:

Firstname: Payfairerwagesandmake
Surname: Thetaxcreditsystemfairer

If you have any enquiries about this please contact the PCS campaigns department on 020 7801 2213

Thanks again,

PCS campaigns"

It'll be on the PM's list if not on the 'open' list.

Perhaps if we support and are fair to the lower paid workers administering the system,a few more of them will do something a little atruistic for us? Rock the boat a bit? Sign up here?

Come on, Insiders - this is Christmas, amd it's only fair!
