The LITRG has queried the way 'claimant' is routinely tacked onto 'fraud and error' to pass the buck to the victims rather than the perpetrators:

Tax credit errors - but whose?

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) are once again criticised for the levels of estimated fraud and error in tax credit claims.

But we still do not know enough about how much is down to claimant error rather than claimant fraud, and we suspect that HMRC error is more prevalent than they claim....

One to bear in mind, folks, when responding to some media articles and some MPs' defence of the system and its supposedly increasing accuracy!

Whilst on the subject of passing the buck, we now have a chance to tell things how they are and show that it was HMRC's fault, not ours.

We now have 'Diary of the Damned' just ready and waiting for contributions and horror stories.... from you!
