Hi there
I have been getting WTC since May 2008. When I applied I was asked to supply P60 & payslips to confirm what was on my application. I did this and was duly awarded WTC. At the time I read the award through and I could see that my income was EXACTLY what is on my P60 (where I got the figure from) I have now had another look at it and it says my ESTIMATED income was £xxxx. The income on the award notice is correct even though it says estimate and the TC office saw a copy of the P60 before I was given the award. I was going to ring the helpline and confirm the amount is correct but after reading some of the issues on here I am a bit concerned that something will now go wrong. However, I am also concerned that if I do not confirm the income as correct until renewal then on a 'technicality' I will be told I have been overpaid. Shall I ring them to tell them it is not an estimate but the correct amount or confirm when the award is renewed? After all the amount is correct AND they have alread seen it. In the past the helpline staff have been v.helpful.Any advice from the people who know would be most helpful. Thank u

Ring them and tell them it is an actual not an estimate, but I don't think it is going to matter, provided - as you say - the estimate and actual are the same. In effect what is happening is that you are being paid on your 07-08 income. When you come to do the annual declaration (after the end of this tax year) you will give them your 08-09 P60 figure. Then, provided that your 08-09 income was not more than £25,000 above your 07-08 income, the payments you have received will have been correct.

However, if your 08-09 income is above your 07-08 one (even if it is only by a small amount), you need to ring them before the end of March and give them your best estimate for the 08-09 income. If you don't do that, the provisional payments they will make to you from the start of the 09-10 tax year up to the date your annual declaration is done will be wrong, and you will have been overpaid.
